Green County burn ban starts Sunday
Green County authorities have issued an outdoor burning ban starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Green County Sheriff’s Department.
The ban covers all of Green County with the exception of cities and villages that have their own ordinances in place, according to the release.
Prohibited outdoor burning includes campfires, burn barrels and brush piles. Gas or charcoal grills are exempt from the ban.
Violators could be fined up to $200 and be responsible for the cost of damage caused by a prohibited fire. The ban will remain in effect until conditions improve.
The Green County Fire Chief’s Association and the sheriff’s department also are encouraging residents to refrain from outdoor burning before the ban begins Sunday.

There are also people who want to have a party and big bon fire and think...."oh we still can do it saturday because the ban isnt till sunday...we wont get in trouble". Ya they wont get in trouble but in reality there are a lot of people who overlook safety and common sense type things like dont burn anything now because its too dry.

Isn't there a law against spitting on the sidewalk?

sigma40 may be right but then there are people out there who never get the word and then they write comments as to why weren't they informed in advance of the action. If there was a ban on spitting on the sidewalk and put into effect immediately what would the reaction be. (this is just an example not a possiblity).

"It's pretty simple. They're saying start no unnecessary fires now"

They should ban now, and enforce now. People before sunday may get a warning.. after that citation. But ban now. Safety issues require immediate action.

It's pretty simple. They're saying start no unnecessary fires now, and as of 8am Sunday, they will start enforcing this request with the full force of the law. They're releasing it in time for Friday night news and Saturday morning papers (like the Gazette), so people actually hear about the ban before Johnny Law comes knocking.

Why would they know about a condition and then wait a couple days? Wow.. that is poor management in its finest form.
