— A Clinton woman remains in serious condition at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford, after being shot Dec. 18.

Marilyn Smith, 58, was shot by her son-in-law, Timothy Harrington, at 6:50 p.m. at a home at 207 Mill St., Clinton.

A Clinton police officer and a Rock County Sheriff’s Department deputy then fatally shot Harrington.

Up to four of Harrington’s children were in the house at the time and were in “great peril,” Sheriff Bob Spoden said.

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is studying the incident.
