— The Janesville City Council on Monday approved the purchase of another property close to the Rock River. The council unanimously authorized City Manager Steve Sheiffer to buy a lot at 803 S. Jackson St. for $47,900.

The 50-by-105-foot lot contains a two-story commercial building that once was a drycleaners and a supper club. The building is in poor condition, and city staff recommends that it be razed for green space at a cost of $33,000.

Federal grants will fund the purchase and demolition, said Doug Venable, the city’s economic development director.

The city also has applied for a state brownfield grant to help pay for environmental testing and possible cleanup at the site. Venable said the city will find out the status of the grant by spring.

Better than a blighted building.
It's location may spark some interest from someone willing to invest $ to help the area by building or whatever.
Who knows, the city may be able to make money on the deal.....

Just another piece of greenspace that the city can not afford to maintain. When and where does this stop?
