— A heated race—and perhaps one of the nastiest in the city’s history—has come to a close.

Alderman William “Bill” Chesen defeated former mayor and outspoken critic of city government Spyro “Speedo” Condos.

“I’ve got some real mixed sentiments about the whole thing,” Chesen said.

He said although he’s grateful to the voters who supported him, he’s disappointed in the campaign for the city’s top spot.

“I’m actually ashamed for myself, for Mr. Condos,” Chesen said. “I wish that this had been something different.

“The saddest part for me is it’s not over.”

Chesen said he has filed complaints with police and plans to file lawsuits for defamation as a result of the campaign.

Condos said he’s done the same.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “I’m not going to let the bullies win.”

Chesen said he’d like to put the campaign behind him and move forward. He said he’d like to get the city council together and get down to city business.

“We’ve been entrusted with a big responsibility,” he said. “Trying to find that common ground, which is in the best interest of this community, that’s what our job is all about.

“My biggest challenge is going to be bringing a very divisive council together to try to move the city forward.”

The right man won the Mayor's office in the City of Lake Geneva. We now need to pray that the Mayor's office is not the zenith of Mr. Chessen's political spectrum; Walworth County and Southeastern Wisconsin needs this voice of integrity too badly.
