— Kelsey Bysted’s hat trick highlighted a nonconference win Thursday night for Janesville Parker High School’s girls soccer team.

The Vikings scored four goals in the second half en route to the 5-0 shutout of Lodi. Parker (2-0) has outscored its opponents 12-0 in two games.

“It was another solid team effort for us,” Parker coach Matt Beisser said. “Kelsey did the leg work to get a couple of the goals, but Ashleigh (Busfield) really did a great job of getting her the ball.

“This was probably the coldest and rainiest game I have ever been involved in,’’ he said. “We made the adjustments, though, and really dominated the whole game.”

Bysted, the school’s single-season all-time scoring leader, got the only goal of the first half on an assist from Nicole Strieker. Junior Catie O’Leary made it 2-0 early in the second half as the Vikings pushed the lead to 4-0 within the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Busfield, a senior, scored Parker’s fourth goal, and Bysted completed her hat trick with a goal at the 52-minute mark off an assist from O’Leary.

Parker goalie Sam Anacker needed to make only three saves to earn the shutout.

I'm pretty sure the coaches are in charge of scheduling. The Parker soccer team might finish .500 in their conference this year. Maybe they should schedule some non-conference games that will prepare them for their tough conference schedule instead of worrying about getting victories or setting schcool scoring records. Just a thought.

Non-conference games often pit larger schools against smaller ones. Scheduling can often be a challenge. Parker plays Milton on Tuesday before going into Big 8 play. Milton will be a better indicator of how good they are as a team.

Why is Parker High School with an enrollment of 1,700 playing Girls Soccer against High Schools with around 500 students?
