Foss leads Craig to baseball win

SUN PRAIRIE — Trevor Foss was everywhere in Janesville Craig High School’s 6-0 victory over Sun Prairie in Big Eight Conference baseball here Monday.

Foss (2-1), a Craig senior righthander, tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout and drove in three runs with a pair of singles. Foss posted 12 strikeouts and no walks.

“It was his best outing of the season,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “He had a good fastball and his breaking ball was working real well.’’

At the plate, Foss smacked an RBI single in Craig’s four-run first inning and added a two-run single in the sixth to complete the Cougars’ scoring.

Craig got off to a 4-0 lead on four singles, a wild pitch and a throwing error. Zach Bayreuther, Ben Yaucher and Caleb Eichman hit consecutive singles.

Eichman’s single plated Bayreuther. Yaucher and Eichman scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Foss’s RBI single finished the inning.

“Anytime you can score four runs in the first inning on Sun Prairie, it’s a huge start to the game,” Herbst said.

Craig (3-2, 2-2) is scheduled to play at Madison East at 5 this afternoon.
