— No one was injured after an armed and intoxicated man threatened to kill his two roommates, sheriff’s deputies and himself early this morning, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Department.

Richard W. Holmbeck, 47, of 8137 S. Schroeder Road, Beloit, was arrested on charges of endangering safety and domestic disorderly conduct while armed.

Sheriff’s deputies, as well as officers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Clinton, town of Beloit and city of Beloit responded to the home at about 3 a.m. and secured a perimeter. While responding, authorities learned Holmbeck was in possession of a handgun and an M1 military rifle.

According to the sheriff’s department:

Two female roommates safely escaped the home after Holmbeck exited and walked toward a barn on the property.

The Rock County SWAT team and negotiators arrived, and at 4:28 a.m., Holmbeck pointed a .44-caliber Magnum revolver in the direction of deputies and began dry firing the handgun.

Holmbeck was taken into custody after being forced to the ground.

I'll tell you why he is out, because in Rock county if your too drunk to remember to load your gun and then point it at officers and pull the trigger it is only a misdeamenor. If you are not quite drunk enough you are dead and maybe a SWAT member too.

Makes me think of a Clash tune:

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row

good post wwr1961. any anti-potter wont believe you tho cuz uncle sam didnt say it. its almost comical listening to people say pot is dangerous as were posting on a story of a guy who got drunk and pulled the trigger of a gun pointed at cops. in the same paper that has 9 drunk driving arrests in the police record with a total of 15 offenses. hypocrisy at its greatest....

So what I would like to know is how on earth it is that this happened Friday at 4:30ish in the morning and he was out talking about the incident Saturday afternoon(I saw him and know him)...How can a person threaten to kill 2 people, aim at gun a the police, threaten to kill themselves, have the entire swat team and two police departments involved and manage to get out of Jail before they have a court date? And we wonder why people get murdered! I would think that this incident would be one that would put up a Red Flag for our safety?? Can anyone say "A DANGER TO SOCIETY"???

You have to drink these days just to not go insane over how screwed up things in our fair country have gotten........ IE: Gas went up $.10 overnight and we have further increases to look forward to, we are spending billions of dollars on A war that should have been over by now and why ohhh why have we not tapped into our own oil supply by now? Is that or is that not for emergency? Well what would you call $3.49.9 A gallon for gas? Hey heres another one, for those of you that have forgotten or where not born yet, What the heck happened to that big pipeline we built from Alaska to here so we could get our own oil? Why not put all the Texicans to work down in texas and uncork some of those beauties? So that being said you still ask about drinking~if you don't drink how do you sleep at night?

Nice comments wwr1961. You sound like a very well educated person. There's nothing more comical than listening to a pothead try and argue his points to make dope legal. Be sure and pass along your incredible wisdom to your kids.

Marijuana is legal in the netherlands and drug crime is almost nonexistent. Now, if you get caught drunk driving, they throw you in prison on the first offense. Coincedentally, they have very few drunk drivers. And not that many armed drunks either.

This guy shouldn't be alive. What if there had been a live round in one of the chambers? I guess that the officers must have pegged him as a poor shot.

I know the government will never ban alcohol again and I'm really not for that anyway. What I'm trying to point out is the hypocrisy of our government in that it says alcohol is OK but marijuana is bad. Yes, not everyone who drinks alcohol threatens other peoples lives but the incidents are far greater than those who threaten peoples lives while high on pot. Take this incident for example. Had he been smoking a joint instead of drinking alcohol he probably would have been laying peacefully on his couch, smiling and laughing, with a bag of Doritos in his hand instead of a gun, not threatening anyone, including himself. Where are all the incidents of people being hurt due to marijuana use? Look at the cost to taxpayers for this one incident. Five responding police departments plus SWAT. EMS personnel were probably put on stand by. All because some idiot gets drunk and stupid on alcohol. Folks, this stuff happens around this country many times every single day. Where are the marijuana incidents??

alcohol just like cigarettes wont be prohibited. the government isnt going to do anything to take a buck out of their pocket, you can bet if they could find a way to justify drugs they would make a buck off that also. as honorable as they try to make themselves sound, they dont want you to quit smoking or drinking or to stop anything that is going to stop the money, and believe they dont care one bit about your health, so dont worry they are not going to prohibit alcohol.

I thought we lived in America, not in a communist country. I don't promote drinking, drugs, but why hurt everyone by someone's bad actions. You just can't erase stupid!!

Pointing a gun, and pulling the trigger at deputies is a great way to get shot. The SWAT team showed greater restraint than I would expect. I'm happy no officer had to go home knowing they shot someone, even though it probably would have been justified.

You know, not everyone who drinks threatens other peoples' lives. I happen to enjoy going out for a few drinks to be social. I don't think that makes me a bad person, does it? Don't ban alcohol because some people get out of control. That would be stupid. And you know how much money the economy would lose? Think of everyone who relies on alcohol to make a living.

Well the war on drugs isn't working either but we continue to spend bajillions of dollars fighting it. There are far more problems in this country due to alcohol than there are with drugs. If alcohol is legal than I say legalize drugs.
