— A local man was arrested twice on theft charges within a matter of hours this morning.

Joseph M. Kjornes, 22, of 1122 W. Delavan Drive, was first arrested at 2:54 a.m. in the 400 block of South Main Street in Janesville on a misdemeanor charge of theft.

Police said he stole from at least one vehicle.

Kjornes was released from custody with a court date.

At 4:45 a.m., he was arrested at Five Point Grocery & Beverage, 600 W. Milwaukee St., after police discovered that Big Ed’s Sew ’N’ Vac, 410 W. Milwaukee St., had been broken into.

Kjornes was arrested again on charges of burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal damage.

A store window at Big Ed’s had been broken, and $50 and stationery with the Big Ed’s letterhead had been stolen, police reported.

Police were unable this morning to provide a damage estimate for the window.

Good question. If he was stealing for drug money the first citation would have slowed down his quest for a fix, but not stopped him from trying again as soon as he was able.
