— The glamour of Broadway and the pizzazz of Disney are coming to Janesville.

Janesville Performing Arts Center management announced Friday that Broadway star Susan Egan would be the artist for this year’s gala event Saturday, Sept. 27.

The annual gala raises money for JPAC’s operating expenses and helps keep costs down for local user groups, explained Laurel Canan, JPAC executive director.

Past performers have included Tony Bennett, Donny Osmond and Franc D’Ambrosio, the star of Broadway’s “Phantom.”

Egan is best known as the original Belle in the Broadway version of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” She received several Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations for best actress in the role.

Egan’s work has earned her a reputation as a consummate entertainer.

“She can sing, she can dance and she’s very funny,” Canan said. “She really came highly recommended.”

Along with being the original Belle, Egan won critical acclaim as Broadway’s longest-running Sally Bowles in “Cabaret” and was Millie in “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

Her resume is a melting pot, containing all the best parts of the entertainment industry.

Egan has:

-- Played alongside Carol Burnett.

-- Appeared in award-winning independent films.

-- Sung at the Hollywood Bowl.

-- Played a variety of roles on television shows including “Hill Street Blues,” “The Drew Carey Show” and “Numb3rs.”

-- Provided the voice for a number of animated characters including Meg in “Hercules” and Angel in “Lady and the Tramp II.”

The JPAC board changed the pricing structure for this year’s gala, Canan said.

Show-only tickets are $35. “Full gala” tickets are $250 and include a dinner at JPAC before the concert and premium concert seating.

A dessert reception for all ticket holders will be held after the concert.
