Unbeaten Madison Memorial tops Craig softball team
MADISON Madison Memorial High School’s unbeaten softball team was at it again Tuesday.
After shutting down Janessville Parker in a doubleheader Saturday, the Big Eight leaders limited Janesville Craig to four hits in a 5-1 victory that lifted them to 9-0 in the conference and 11-0 overall.
Lexi Johnson pitched a complete game for Memorial, but she allowed back-to-back doubles by Abby Geiger and Mandy Smith in the sixth that produced the Cougars’ lone run.
“Johnson pitched pretty well, and Memorial played pretty good defense,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said.
Johnson notched nine strikouts and allowed no walks. The Spartans had eight hits off Craig starter Mandy Smith and reliever Bailie Whittaker.
Craig (6-7, 4-6) hosts Middleton at 4 p.m. today at Dawson Field.
