Rock County Sheriff presents budget
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Steve Benton reports on preliminary 2009 budget numbers for the Rock County Sheriff's Department
ROCK COUNTY The Rock County Board's joint Staff and Finance Committee got its first look at the sheriff department's budget for next year at a meeting this week.
Sheriff Bob Spoden says he's seeking additional money for the jail diversion program and an additional deputy. He says the deputy is needed because of the increase in service calls and crime.
Spoden says one of the toughest budget items is fuel costs, because it's so hard to predict where gas prices will be next year.
Spoden says this is very early in the budget process.
The preliminary budget for 2009 is about $18-million or 7.9% higher than this year's spending plan.
