The skyline around the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds will soon change, as construction on a new cell tower begins next week.

Assistant County Administrator Phil Boutwell says it seems to be a relatively quick construction process. He says the company, Global Towers, hopes to have the tower in operation by the first of the year. The tower will be constructed using a monopole design and will look like a flag pole. Previous attempts at installing a cell tower at the fairgrounds met with opposition from neighbors and local government.

The county receives the initial $10,000 payment for signing the lease agreement. Effective in December, the county receives the annual rent payment for the tower. The money is deposited into an operating account in the county fairgrounds budget.
