— The U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team announced Tuesday they will perform at the 8th annual Southern Wisconsin AirFEST next year.

AirFest will be held May 29-31 at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport on Highway 51 between Janesville and Beloit.

Blue Angels representatives visited the area last week to check out the facilities and safety offered at the airport.

The Blue Angels were last at AirFEST in 2005.

The Golden Knights are celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

Serdan....don't forget Skip! Your travel companion will know what I mean. Word is traveling fast here and Tom on Stan Milam's show was great. This year will be the best one yet! Let's get 1st place this year! We have a great group of volunteers who take their tasks seriously and act professionally. We can't ask for any better. Now, with that said, we do need additional volunteers, so keep an eye on the paper in late Dec/early Jan for an announcement for a volunteer meeting. Until then, Think Blues and Knights!

Finally some good news for the area! After the last visit in 2005 and after their season was over the Blue Angels voted on the "AirShow of the year" that they attend. AirFest was voted #2 that year! This shows that people and volunteers of the area know how to produce and do things right. While the team this year is not the team that was here in 2005 I can assure you that this present team was briefed on their last performance here and how the accomodations, safety, hospitality etc were compared to other sites. The "Boss" of the Blues told me yesterday that he was personally looking forward to their visit here. Cdr Greg McWherter is the "boss" and he is a California native and said he doesn't have much experience in the midwest. He has heard so much about Wisconsin and wants to experience it. He had heard about the GM plant closing in Janesville and asked what the people were going to do. It was genuine concern and he was concerned that the air show might be affected.
We have a great lineup shaping up this year. I am in Las Vegas right now at the ICAS convention and will be talking to possible performers this morning. This WILL be the best show to visit Janesville ever! Believe me, we are the envy of the nation this morning when its seen that a small city like Janesville/Beloit can draw such attractions! Part of the reason is we have established a reputation in the industry and they WANT to come here... Lets show them that we can have a good time also!
