— Yuri Rashkin will host "Discover Janesville," a talk show that will debut Friday on JATV.

Rashkin, a council member and musician, will host the show, which he said he created because of his interest in people and his love of the community.

Viewers will get first-hand accounts about Rock County, its history, culture and people, he said.

The public's reception of the pilot will dictate whether he produces more, Rashkin said.

The pilot was filmed at the Riverside Family Restaurant over coffee.

Friday's guests are:

-- Rich Gruber, vice president of Mercy Health Systems. Rashkin described Gruber as "one of the most interesting people I've met," noting his past experiences that include radio work. Gruber is on the Forward Janesville board, is involved in the community and has an informative perspective on ways to improve Janesville, Rashkin said.

-- Don Mrdjenovich, a past superintendent of the Janesville School District. He will share his thoughts on the search for the next superintendent.

-- Rich Fletcher, photographer and chairman of the Janesville Historic Commission. Fletcher conducts popular walking tours of historic neighborhoods in Janesville and has a great understanding of what makes the city's historical architecture and neighborhoods unique, Rashkin said.

"I just think that Janesville is such a neat place, and sometimes, we who live here don't realize … how lucky we are to live in a great little place like Janesville," Rashkin said. "One of the ways to increase awareness of that is to introduce the community to people who live in Janesville and get to know the neat people (here).

"I think a lot of these stories are pretty interesting."

Robert Jarzden of The Video Pod Squad helped Rashkin with the production.

For more information, call Yuri Rashkin at DiscoverJanesville@gmail.com or at (608) 754-2424.

"Discover Janesville" will air at 3 and 8 p.m. Friday on JATV, Channel 98.

curiousjoel, I don't know where you were last election but Rashkin was pretty open about his resume. Among his other endeavors he is a mortgage broker, but that might be a tough business this year. He also sells insurance.

.
As for his other "credentials" (whatever that means), he was elected by the citizens of Janesville. You can keep up with his civic activities on his blog. I'm not sure how much more open he could be.

.
There was also a little bit about his background in this Gazette article about the Georgia-Russia war.

Maybe the show band can be the Blue Olives. Yuri can have wacky banter with Dave Turner.

Yuri plays the piano, I wonder if he'll do that on the show.

Is this going to turn out like Susan Johanson, but from a male perspective?

I'm so touched that Rashkin thinks Jvle is a "great little place". Aparently, he's not aware that Jvle is the 10th or 11th largest city in WI (depending on where you look). I think Jvle has a lot of community pride and the Gazette and Messenger do a good job of "introducing the community to the people of Janesville". (what ever that means)

I'm hoping for guests like Ken Peterson and a marriage counselor.

So, what do we know about Rashkin? He's got a lot of personal problems and he's got a lot of time on his hands. How long has he been in Janesville? Where does he work? How many kids does he have? What are his credentials? He must be awefully well connected.

So what channel on DirecTV will this "wildly entertaining" show be on?

I suspect that the show will to some degree be a counter to the psychotic screeds of B'moon and her ilk.
