— Residents here have been victims of thefts from their motor vehicles for the past several months, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of property damage and stolen money.

The thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles, as well as vehicles on the road, in driveways and in garages. The thieves take change left in the vehicle and small moveable property, such as electronics.

Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles, garages and residences and to call the Milton Police Department to report any suspicious behavior. If a crime is observed in progress, call 911 immediately.

Anyone with any other information about these crimes should call the Milton Police Department at (608) 757-2244. The Milton Police Department and Janesville Area CrimeStoppers will offer a reward for anyone coming forward with information that leads to the arrest of the suspect or suspects in the case.

I would be surprised if it is not the same people/person that was stealing from vehicles here in Milton earlier this year. We are a small, lax community of neighbors. However, most of us are now locking things up, where we didn't feel the need in years past.

My next door neighbor neglectfully left his wallet in his truck. Not only was it stolen but also, all the spare change in his ash tray.

I never used to lock my vehicle... in fact hubby used to leave his keys in his truck. No more however... its just sickening to lose that sense of security in our own home and on our own property. Its definitely a sign of the times we live in.

But I tell ya what... I would have NO problem turning my dog loose on a perp... Oops, she just slipped out the door and managed to bite the dude in the .... (heh-hehehhhh)

Has anyone but myself wondered if the 4 guys they busted stealing from cars here in Janesvile A few months back (out on the far northeast side from vehicles in motel and theater parking lots) were still in custody, or have they possibly moved alittle further north 10-15 miles? Just something the police may want to check into seems like the same M.O.

757-2244 is the non-emergency number at the Rock County Communications Center (911).

Why does the Milton police dept. have a Janesville phone number?
