School board field still at 10 candidates
JANESVILLE A Janesville School Board Committee took no action Thursday to narrow the list of applicants to fill two vacant school board seats.
Committee chairman and board president DuWayne Severson had said the committee would narrow the field before interviews, but he said Thursday that the committee had changed its mind.
Severson said the committee wanted to meet all of the “10 good candidates” before deciding anything.
Committee member Tim Cullen said he and the other board members know some of the candidates but not all, so the committee did not want to discuss any of them before meeting all of them.
The committee did set a time to interview all 10 applicants. It will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Educational Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St. The meeting will be open to the public.
Severson said each candidate would meet with the board for about 15 minutes. The committee drew names out of a hat to determine which candidates would get his or her preference for the interview time.
The names, in order they were drawn, were David Habeck, Jason Dowd, Dale Thompson, Jim Farrell, Karl Dommershausen, Tom Lemmer, Julie Gibes, Peter D. Severson, Gregory Ardrey and Munir “Mike” Hanna.
The committee, which also includes Debra Kolste, left open the possibility of a second round of interviews before it makes its recommendations to the full board for a vote.
DuWayne Severson, who is no relation to Peter D. Severson, said he hoped the full board could vote when it meets July 22.
