— A visit to family ended in tragedy for a South Korean woman Friday night.

Myungja Ahn, 67, Seoul, South Korea, died after the minivan she was riding in rolled on Interstate 90/39 near Edgerton in Dane County.

Ahn was in America visiting her son, 44-year-old Baek Joo, and his family, said Jon Fenrick, trooper with the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Ahn, Joo, his wife, 41-year-old El Kim, and their two children, ages 11 and 14, were on their way home to Rochester, Minn. from Chicago when Kim, who was driving, lost control of the minivan, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The van went off the road near mile marker 160 around 7 p.m. Friday. Kim overcorrected, and the van rolled several times, the release said.

The State Patrol isn’t sure what caused the accident, but it does not believe speed or alcohol were factors, Fenrick said.

Joo, Kim and the two children were transported to Edgerton Hospital and Health Services with non-life threatening injuries, the release said. Fenrick declined to release the children’s names. Their conditions were unavailable at Edgerton Hospital on Saturday.

Ahn was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Joo, Kim and the 14-year-old were wearing seatbelts, according to the release. The 11-year-old was not.

The State Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
