JANESVILLE The Janesville School Board started its meeting Tuesday with seven members but was soon up to full strength at nine.
As expected, the board unanimously voted to seat Greg Ardrey and Peter D. Severson. The two were the only choices of a board committee that interviewed 10 people who applied for the job after two recent resignations.
The only hitch came from board member Bill Sodemann, who said he thought the board should have had four or five choices and the opportunity to hear from all of them.
Sodemann moved that the board delay the appointments to hear from at least two more candidates. No one seconded the motion.
Sodemann told Ardrey and Severson that he wasn’t questioning their qualifications.
“It’s just the process I’m concerned with,” Sodemann said.
But board member Lori Stottler said any board member could have come to the meeting when the 10 candidates were interviewed.
The board approved Ardrey and Severson on a vote of six to none, with Sodemann abstaining.
The two new members were sworn in and took their places at the board table immediately after the vote. Nameplates already had been prepared for them.

Once again, Lori Stottler is the voice of reason on the board while Sodemann wants to hear himself talk and see his name in the paper.
