South Bend shuts out Snappers

SOUTH BEND, IND. — The South Bend Silver Hawks blanked the Beloit Snappers, 3-0, in Midwest League baseball here Wednesday night.

Beloit and South Bend each had five hits, but the Silver Hawks managed to score single runs in three innings to hand the Snappers their third straight loss.

South Bend reliever Daniel Strange pitched a perfect eighth and ninth innings to record the save. Starting pitcher Joshua Collmenter blanked the Snappers on five hits.

Beloit left a pair of runners stranded in the third and seventh innings for its only threats.

Snappers starter David Bromberg (6-7) allowed two runs on four hits in the first seven innings to take the loss.

South Bend scored the only run it would need in the fifth inning with two outs on a hit batter, a stolen base, a walk and second baseman Jeanfred Brito’s fielding error.
