Smith suspended from UW football team
MADISON Wisconsin running back Lance Smith has been expelled from a first-offenders program and suspended from the team.
Smith was put in the program after an incident last year in which he allegedly pushed his girlfriend.
Court records show the 20-year-old Smith was terminated from the program Thursday for failing to meet its requirements. His case will now be sent back to court for sentencing on battery and disorderly conduct charges.
Badgers head coach Bret Bielema suspended Smith from the team Thursday, barring him from games and practice. Bielema says Smith remains on official squad lists and can get services at the sports medicine facility, academic support center and weight training room.
Smith’s attorney did not immediately return a message left for comment by The Associated Press.
