Janesville City Council discusses skate park funding
Janesville's City Council discussed possible locations for a proposed skate park Monday.
City Council member Russ Steeber says he prefers Palmer Park as a location for the skate park, but it's unlikely funds other than staff time and property would be provided by the city. Council member George Brunner wants to hear specifics of the plan before discussing potential federal grant funds. Council member Bill Truman says that with flooding and over-budget snowplowing, he can't support spending $250,000 of city money on the skate park. He says if the city could get grants, the council will probably be more supportive of the park.
The park would probably need to be in the Fourth Ward or Look West neighborhoods in order to take advantage of Community Development Block Grants.

Keep the skate park out of Palmer. Isn't there enough crap for the kid in the city. How about the dog owners who like go to the Dog park? Oh that’s right though we need to do everything for the kids. Leave the Dog Park alone. It’s the one and only thing dog owners have in the city. There is tons of stuff in Janesville for the "Kids" How about skate place by the old wal-mart site. I drive by it daily and it sit vacant. I have an idea have the city buy up one of GM’s parking lots and build it over there.

I love the Idea of skate parks and also think Palmer would be a great place. The only warning I have regarding a skate park is make sure it is out of listening distance from other playgrounds.
Any time I have had my little kids near one I wind up covering there ears and running away. It is hard to keep the young men from using foul language when they goof up, or every other word for that matter.
But getting this same demographic away from there video games is greatly encouraged.

i think a skate park is an awesome thing. but i do believe that the city should put it in either palmer or possibly riverside park. i think that if it is located in the forth ward or look west neighborhoods, that the kids and facility will be faced with problems. there is already enough gang fights and domestic issues in those areas, and i know that we would all want kids to be safe. great idea, it's needed and wanted by lots of kids including mine.
