— Two more people have applied to fill the two vacancies on the Janesville School Board.

They are Tom Lemmer and Munir "Mike" Hanna.

The board plans to appoint two people to fill vacancies after two recent resignations.

As previously reported, others who have applied include Dale Thompson, a former school board member. Three other applicants all have run for school board in the past: Jason Dowd, David Habeck and Peter D. Severson.

Lemmer, 45, of 324 Linn St., ran unsuccessfully for school board this spring. He is an assistant manager at Family Dollar, 1820 W. Court St.

Lemmer ran unsuccessfully for city council in 2007. He has a nursing assistant degree from Blackhawk Technical College and graduated from Forward Janesville’s Campaign Management Institute. He is a U.S. Army veteran and has been involved in the Washington School Parent-Teacher Association and Badger 4-H.

Lemmer garnered 1,624 votes in the April 1 elections. The next highest vote-getter was Severson, with 3,695.

Munir “Mike” Hanna, 1248 E. Memorial Drive, also applied for the seat. Hanna, a retired businessman, has run for city council three times.

During the 2006 election, he described himself as an “independent-thinking person.”

Anyone else interested in the openings positions has until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to apply.

Written applications must be delivered to the office of Nancy Hewes, assistant board clerk, by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The address is 527 S. Franklin St., Janesville, WI 53548.

Applications outlining the applicant’s qualifications must not exceed two typewritten pages.

For more information, call Hewes at (608) 743-5056.
