Snappers edge Cedar Rapids

BELOIT — Mark Dolenc ripped a one-out RBI single to score Greg Yersich and give the Beloit Snappers a 2-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Midwest League baseball here Sunday.

Beloit’s Mike McCardell (5-1) allowed one run on five hits in going the distance. McCardell retired 15 straight Kernals from the fifth inning.

McCardell surrendered an RBI single in the fourth inning as Cedar Rapids grabbed a 1-0 lead. Beloit tied it in the sixth on Estarlin De Los Santos RBI double.

In Beloit ninth, Yersich hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a two-out Cedar Rapids throwing error. Then came the game-winning hit.
