Meeting on wrestling room was improperly noticed

— A hastily called meeting of a Janesville School Board committee on Thursday violated a state statute.

“We goofed,” Superintendent Tom Evert admitted after he was made aware of the violation.

Public bodies must issue meeting notices at least 24 hours before the meeting unless there is “good cause” to give a shorter notice, which must be at least two hours in advance of the meeting.

“Good cause” generally is interpreted as an urgent need to take immediate action, said Bob Dreps, an attorney who represents members of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.

No such special circumstance was involved with a meeting of the board’s Buildings and Grounds/Finance Committee on Thursday night, Evert said.

Evert referred the matter to district legal counsel David Moore, who said the committee’s actions would not be voided unless the district attorney takes up the case and a court agrees that that the public interest would best be served by voiding the committee’s actions.

An e-mail giving notice of the meeting was sent at 11:06 a.m. Thursday. The meeting was set for 5 p.m.

Moore called it an inadvertent error.

Imagine-If those numbers are accurate, and this community is okay with the increases in salaries for poor performance, then we are in worse shape then I thought. How are higher salaries for Administrators the JEA's fault? Just Curious?

Hey Imagine, If I were an administrator and had to put up with all the underhanded tactics and mud-slinging being used by the JEA, I would expect a high salary too.

It's sad to say, but it is hard to trust this administration and school board with the administration of the $79 million expansion of our two high schools. Our community and students deserve better.

The school board gave Dr.Evert high marks for his annual review this year. The public is in real trouble with the blind leading the blind.

Sounds like the Districts Doctors of Education are practicing bad medicine.

Another goofed situation by the School Districts Administration. How many is this in the last 9 months alone? When are they going to be held accountable? Maybe our school board members should spend a little more time dragging the districts leadership kicking and screaming into accountability and less on the teachers.
