Director leaves Armory
JANESVILLE Armory theater director Jim Tropp resigned Monday, three days before the Thursday opening of the Armory’s production of “All Shook Up.”
Armory owner Mick Gilbertson said the show will go on.
Stage manager Eleanor Moriarty took over the show on Monday—just a few days ahead of schedule, Gilbertson said.
Traditionally, a director and artistic team work on creating the show itself. When their work is done, the stage manager takes over, Gilbertson said.
Gilbertson would not comment on Tropp’s departure, saying it was a “private affair between me and my employee.”
Tropp echoed the sentiment, saying his departure is a personal matter between him and Gilbertson.
“I’m tired,” Tropp said. “Maybe it’s a little of the Brett Favre syndrome, but I’m not going away from this community. I think I still have a lot to offer.
“I have the utmost respect for Mick as a businessman and entrepreneur and what he’s done for the downtown with the Armory.”
