Stolen vehicle found in Rock River
Police have determined that a car fished out of the Rock River on Sunday was stolen from an Edgerton home.
At 10:45 a.m. Sunday, the Rock County Sheriff’s Department, its dive and rescue teams and two local fire departments were dispatch to a report of a car in the Rock River.
The car was about 120 feet from the river’s edge off the Newville public boat landing on Ellendale Road, west of Fins Bar and Grill, 723 North Ellendale Road.
Firefighters launched a boat out to the car, but didn’t find any victims. Neither did the sheriff’s department water rescue and dive team, which searched around the submerged car and along the shoreline.
At about the same time, the Edgerton Police Department was responding to a report of a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer stolen from IKI Drive in Edgerton on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Officials matched the car in the river with the one stolen, and the search was discontinued.
“We’re convinced that there are no victims in the water,” said Rock County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Steve Selby.
The Edgerton Police Department is investigating the car theft.
