Five inductees headed to Janesville Sports Hall of Fame

JANESVILLE — Five new members have been selected for 2008 induction into the Janesville Sports Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame, sponsored by The Janesville Gazette, has scheduled its 19th annual induction dinner for Saturday, May 17, at the Rotary Gardens. A social hour is set for 5:30 p.m., which will be followed by the dinner at 6:30 and the program.

Stories on each of the inductees will be featured in Sunday editions of the Gazette.

These people will be inducted:

Jayme Anderson, Associated Press second-team all-state player for Janesville Parker High School’s girls basketball program in 1997, who earned NCAA Division III All-America honors at Beloit College and UW-Eau Claire, finished her career as a Division I standout at Drake University and most recently was named to the D3hoops.com all-decade third team.

Richard Kingsley, Janesville native and lifelong resident, who distinguished himself as a high school basketball player (1950-53), long-time coach in Janesville Youth Baseball and American Legion baseball, and basketball game official and baseball umpire for more than 40 years.

Robb Logterman, Associated Press first-team all-state basketball player with a 28.1 scoring average for Janesville Craig High School in 1990, who scored 1,201 points in a four-year career as a scholarship player at Marquette University.

Steve Nickols, All-Big Eight offensive lineman in 1966 on Janesville Senior High’s last football team before the school split; NAIA all-district football standout in a four-year career at St. Norbert College; longtime contributor as a coach and president in Janesivlle Youth Baseball.

John Thiede, All-Big Eight and Associated Press all-state honorable-mention lineman for Janesville Craig High School in 1975, who became a four-year scholarship player at the University of Illinois.
