— Parker High School Principal Dale Carlson is headed for something of a homecoming.

Holmen School District officials announced Friday afternoon that Carlson was selected to be the district’s next superintendent.

The Holmen School Board will formally appoint Carlson to the position May 12, the La Crosse Tribune reported Friday. He will be Holmen’s fifth superintendent after the current superintendent retires June 30.

Carlson could not be reached for comment Friday night.

Carlson said at a public forum April 9 that being hired as superintendent in Holmen would bring him back to where he started his teaching career, according to the Tribune. He taught first in Mauston and then at La Crosse Central and Logan high schools in La Crosse.

Holmen is a city of about 7,500, located about 5 miles north of La Crosse.

Carlson said at the forum that “a real commitment (to) education” would be his No. 1 priority, according to the Tribune.

Carlson has served as vice principal and principal in Janesville since 1995. He has been the principal at Parker since 1999.

Carlson was one of four finalists for the superintendent position.
