Matt Knutson, a freshman on the Janesville Parker High boys tennis team, stepped up at the Stoughton Invitational on Saturday.
Knutson moved up from his usual No. 4 singles slot to reach the title match at No. 3 singles, but bowed to Brian Rekosky of Appleton Xavier, 7-5, 6-0.
“Matt won his first two matches and played great all day,’’ Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said.
Meanwhile, Edgerton’s Joe Kronforst lost the No. 1 singles title match to Jefferson’s Lee Olson, 6-1, 6-2. Kronforst is coming back from a severe knee injury during the basketball season.
Appleton Xavier won the team title, earning 53 points. Parker posted 16 points to finish sixth in the eight-team tournament, which survived several long rain delays.
