— Janesville Parker High School’s boys tennis team used a close loss to cross-town rival Janesville Craig on Tuesday to propel it to its first Big Eight victory of the season Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings defeated visiting Sun Prairie, 6-1, at Palmer Park to move to 1-6 in the conference.

“We knew it was going to be a tough match,” said Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann. “We played a close match against Craig, and we took that momentum into this one.”

The Vikings won three of four singles matches and swept the doubles competition.

“As a whole, we played great,” Fuhrmann said. “Once again, our No. 3 doubles team (Kevin Konkel and Jake Lewis) showed great resiliency. They won in three sets against Craig and again won in three sets today. They find a way.”

The Vikings participate in the Fort Atkinson Quadrangular today and close the Big Eight regular season at Madison Memorial on Monday.
