Craig softball team triples its fun
JANESVILLE The most exciting play in baseball or softball might be a triple.
Janesville Craig’s Gabrielle Cassady smacked three triples Friday as the Cougars rolled to a 7-1 Big Eight Conference softball victory over Madison East at Dawson Field.
Cassady smoked lead-off triples in the first, third and fifth innings. She scored Craig’s lone run in each of those innings.
“On all three of those triples I could have sent her home, but with nobody out I was thinking we were going to score here anyway,” Craig head coach Dan Bayreuther said. “She’s been in a groove lately.”
The Cougars (9-9 overall, 7-8 Big Eight) added three runs in the sixth. Kelly Lyke had a one-out single. Jillynn Mortensen followed with an RBI triple. She scored on a wild pitch. Audrey Freeman the cracked Craig’s fifth triple and scored the final run on a groundout.
The Cougars will play at Fort Atkinson on Monday and wrap up their regular and conference season at Madison La Follette on Tuesday.
