Craig track teams take fourth at Hartford

Janesville Craig High School girls and boys track and field teams each finished fourth at the Hartford Invitational here Friday.

The Craig girls won four events and earned 100.5. The Craig boys won two events and posted 102.5 points.

For the Craig girls, junior Cassidi Running won the 3,200 run (11 minutes, 51.54 seconds), freshman Rachel Gilmore won the 1,600 run (5:42.9), senior Nikki Sciezinski won the 300 hurdles (49.66) and senior Abby Mayer won the pole vault (9-6).

“It was a very good night for our girls,” Craig girls coach Mark Marsden said.

For the Craig boys, senior Greg Pedersen won the shot put (51-7¾) and junior Matt McDonald won the 1,600 run (4:47.79).

“Matt (McDonald) has been there for us all year,” Craig coach Jeff Deininger said. “He keeps getting better.’’

Craig’s JoJo Pregont long jumped 21 feet, 11 inches, but finished second to Marcus Jenkins of Milwaukee Tech who posted a 25-24 leap.

Mequon Homestead won the boys’ seven-team meet over Milwaukee Tech, 162-131. The Mequon Homestead girls edged Milwaukee Tech, 125-122, for the title in the eight-team field.

Craig will particpate in the Big Eight Conference meet Tuesday at Madison La Follette’s Lussier Stadium.
