Memorial topples Parker tennis team
MADISON Madison Memorial High School’s tennis team showed Janesville Parker why the Spartans are no more than a hair behind the Big Eight leaders.
With six two-set victories, Memorial downed the visiting Vikings, 6-1, Monday to finish 6-1 in conference duals.
While the Spartans lost only to champion Madison East and runner-up Middleton by 4-3 scores, Parker went 1-7 in Big Eight duals.
Parker’s highlight against Memorial was Matt Knutson’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Stephan Golos at No. 4 singles.
“Matt hit the ball well, kept it in play and did a nice job,’’ Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “Overall, our score wasn’t as good as we’d like it be, but Memorial is a very good team.’’
Parker and the Spartans will play in the Big Eight meet Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, beginning at 8 a.m.
