JANESVILLE — Tuesday’s Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker girls regional softball game at Dawson Ball Field had a little bit of everything.

There was great defense and not so great defense. A few clutch hits and a few missed opportunities at the plate. There was even a controversial call that kept an inning alive for Craig.

But in the end, it was the Cougars who prevailed over their crosstown rival for the third time this season.

Mandy Smith fired a complete-game four-hitter and the offense took advantage of three Parker errors en route to a 5-2 win.

Craig (12-9) will play at Beloit on Thursday for the regional championship and a berth in the Division 1 Wilmot Sectional.

Parker (7-13), despite leading 1-0 in the fifth, couldn’t overcome its defensive miscues or the so-called controversial call.
