Edgerton golfers win Monroe Regional
MONROE Edgerton High's boys golf team posted a 320 to win the WIAA Division 2 regiona Tuesdayl at Monroe Country Club.
The Crimson Tide topped favored Madison Edgewood (324) for the title.
“It was just fantastic the way we shot today,” Edgerton coach Ken Haagensen said.
Edgerton senior Mike Hesselman had a par 72 for medalist honors. Dan Ozga fhad a 77 for the Crimson tide, followed by Adam Dickson at 80 and Andrew Mongomery at 91.
Cody Strang carded a 1-over-par 73 to lead Edgewood.
Edgerton, Edgewood, McFarland and Monroe, along with Brodhead’s Jaimie Pierson (82), Beloit Turner’s Kyle Freeman (84) and Mount Horeb’s Justin Jones (84) advance to the Mayville Sectional next Tuesday.
“It will be frosting on the cake if we go to state,” Haagensen said of his two-time Rock Valley champions. “But it gets a lot tougher. There will be 12 teams and only two go to state.’’
