Another "Operation Christmas Child" is underway in Janesville

WCLO's Steve Benton reports on a "faith based" gift giving project

JANESVILLE — "Operation Christmas Child" has been around since 1993. Janesville's Oakhill Christian school has been involved since 1999.

The school is once again the drop off site for the project, which involves sending shoe boxes full of goodies to children in more than 90 countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine, and poverty.

Janesville drop-off coordinator, Charlene Meiklejohn says to participate you need a shoe box and a few things to put in it. They can include t-shirts, baseball caps, toothpaste, soap, and small toys. Do not include liquids, items that can melt, or any war related toys. Meiklejohn says you can personalize your box with a note or picture, and sometimes the recipient writes back. You can actually watch the progress of deliveries at the web site, samaritanspurse.org.

Shoe boxes can be dropped off at Oakhill Christian school at 1650 South Oakhill, Avenue between 8 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. Monday, November 17 through Friday, November 21.
