Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden is looking forward to being more proactive in monitoring traffic and weather on the interstate system with the expansion of the "Intelligent Transportation System" or I.T.S in Rock County.
I.T.S is already operating in some high population areas, like Dane and Milwaukee counties, but expansion into other areas, including Rock County, had been placed on hold by state officials.
The snow storm last February brought traffic to a stand-still on the Interstate in Rock and Dane counties and convinced lawmakers to expand the system. The cameras will give officials a good picture of several key locations in the county.
Spoden says the latest word is the system will be operating within the next couple weeks. He says the 911 Center will be able to monitor the cameras 24 hours a day and key players at the Sheriff's Department will have access from their desk top computers.
