— The condition of a driver injured in Friday’s fatal accident on Janesville’s south side has been updated.

Mark Ryan, 35, was treated and released from Mercy Hospital. Condition reports on Ryan’s 14-month-old and 4-year-old sons, who were passengers in his vehicle, are still unavailable. A 9-year-old girl, who was a passenger in a Ford Tempo driven by Debra Anderson, 47, of Orfordville, was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa. Her condition is also unknown.

The accident took place just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of highways 51 and 11, according to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson was southbound on Highway 51 when she entered the intersection on a red light and was broadsided by the 2007 Dodge Ram Quad driven by Ryan. Ryan was westbound on Highway 11 and had a green light.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now that we know the Anderson woman was drunk 3 times the limit at 2pm, it just saddens me even more. I HATE DRUNK DRIVERS!!!!!! I had 3 friends killed by drunk drivers just in my last 2 years of high school! WHY? I COMMEND law enforcement for what they do. Everyone who gets a speeding ticket deserves it. Flagman is right. You only want whats in your favor. But then what happens when something bad happens to you?

beeferer are you insinuating that the poor woman purposely ran a red light. I highly doubt it. It was an unfortunate accident.

WHILE I HATE TO SEE SOMEONE DIE FROM RESULT OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENT, YOU MUST REALIZE THAT IS ALL THE OFFICER WERE OUT WRITING TICKETS FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, COULD NOT ANSWER ALL THE OTHER CALLS.

ALSO, YOU CAN NOT USE THE MONEY GENERATED FROM TRAFFIC CITATIONS, IT GOES TO THE COUNTY GENERAL FUND.

BUT, IF THEY WERE ALL WRITING THE TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, THEN YOU WOULD WRITE IN AND COMPLAIN BECAUSE THEY WERE GIVING YOU A TICKET AND THEY SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO.

AFTER 35 YEARS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, I REALIZED THAT YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE AND YOUR MOST IMPORTANT JOB IS TO BE THERE FOR THE PUBLIC.

IT'S A HOPELESS JOB AND NO MATTER WHAT THEY GET PAID, IT IS NOT ENOUGH.

ONE PERSON SAID IT, SPEED TRAPS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE, IT'S THE PERSON BEHIND THE WHEEL THAT TAKES THE CHANCES TO SAVE A COUPLE OF MINUTES.

NEXT TIME YOU SEE A POLICE OFFICER ALONG SIDE THE ROAD WITH A VEHILE STOPPED, TAKE SOMETIME IN YOUR MIND TO THANK THEM FOR THE JOB THEY DO.

With a step son who will get his license in Jan I and my wife are scared to death to let him drive on his own. I drive a truck for a living and see people everyday driving like idoits. People see a yellow light and hammer the gas to make it so they dont have to wait a few minutes for the next green light. I never see cops on the highway looking for speeders. In town I see cops sitting by while cars run red lights all the time. If you dont pay attention while driving stuff like this are always going to happen. Has nothing to do with the intersection, or the posted speed limit. People in this town dont drive the posted speed limit anyways. SLOW DOWN AND SAVE A LIFE OR 2.

God Bless to all the victims!!

I hope all the children will recover quickly. It's so sad the girl lost her Grandmother.

What I don't like about that intersection are the people zipping in and out of Kwik Trip. Some of them are downright scary! I don't like turning south on 51 from 11 because someone always decides at the last minute that they need to pull into the station there. I give everyone lots of room.

It's not the intersection that is causing accidents here or at 26 & Cty N.

Blaming an intersection for the operation of a motor vehicle doesn't make sense. The intersection, stop light, stop sign, does not hold the wheel or make the decisions.

Nearly all accidents are caused by inattentive, impaired, or poor driving. The numerous accidents involving multi-DUI offenders this past year alone makes me fear for my family out on the roads.

What a terrible tragedy for both families. I hope the children will be okay.

Just what is up with this intersection? Don't people see the lights? I have driven in that area hundreds of times and I always see the lights. I am guessing that the speed limit from HWY 51 to County HWY G will be changed to 45 MPH. Or perhaps video surveillance for that intersection and signs, BIG signs that inform drivers that the intersection is under video surveillance and lawbreakers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. With all the red light runners we have in this city, the resulting fines will pay for the equipment in less than a week, I'd say. The revenue generated will also pay for surveillance equipment for Five Points and every intersection on restaurant row (Milton Ave.), although it may take up to a month to generate enough money for those. Do I think this city is full of poor drivers? No. Do I think this city has more than its share of flagrant law-breaking drivers? I'll have to give an emphatic YES. (And yes I do realize that it would take longer to generate enough revenue to pay for all the equipment, but I am just trying to make a point.)
