Milton, Parker, Craig, Edgerton's Ferrell advance to sectional golf
Ashton Stair and Karlee McCue shared top scoring honors to spark Milton High School to a WIAA Division 1 regional girls golf title at Oak Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday.
Milton carded a 364 to win its second regional championship in three years.
Janesville Parker finished second with a 385, Janesville Craig was third at 400, and Elkhorn took fourth with a 405. Each team earned a berth in the Janesville Parker Sectional next Tuesday at Riverside.
Individual sectional qualifiers include Nikki Masterson of Beloit Memorial, 49-47—96; Katy Kanelos of Lake Geneva Badger, 48-54—102; and Jordan Majewski of Fort Atkinson, 53-50—103.
The sectional’s top two teams and the top three individuals who are not members of those teams advance to the Oct. 13-14 state tournament at University Ridge in Madison.
Milton’s Stair and McCue each posted an 87 in the regional. Stair won medalist honors in a scorecard playoff.
“The conditions were tough,” said Milton coach Andrea Wieland. “It was windy and cold, and we’ve been spoiled with good weather.’’
Stair started her front nine going birdie, eagle, birdie, but followed the dazzling string with a triple bogey. Stair went 48-39, while McCue shot 46-41.
“Ashton was a little disappointed,” Wieland said. “She had a rough front nine, but Karlee shot a personal best.’’
Parker’s Molly Rozeboom shot 43-47—90 to finish fourth. Craig’s Lindsey Beals carded a 44-47—91 to finish fifth.
“We didn’t play our best golf,” Parker coach John Zimmerman said of the Vikings’ effort. “We played well enough to get to the sectional, and that was our goal.’’
The path to the state tournament won’t be easy as five of the state’s top 15 teams will be vying for state berths at Riverside.

“It was extremely hard conditions, windy and cold,” Edgerton coach Ken Haugom said. “If your approach was not below the cup, you would three-putt in a blink of an eye.’’
Haugom said Ferrell, who tied for third place at the 2007 Division 1 state meet and third in her first state Division 1 meet as a freshman, adjusted well to the conditions.
“She managed the round well under the conditions,” Haugom said.
Edgewood, Darlington/Cuba City, Lancaster and Wisconsin Dells advance to the Wisconsin Dells Sectional next Tuesday at Trapper’s Turn.
Individual sectional qualifiers include Ferrell, Kristie Waynick of Prairie du Chien and Southwestern’s Kelly Runde.

I must correct my previous comment to be that it was 3rd place that was not mentioned instead of 2nd place( it was the second lowest score). The other players mentioned were 4th and 5th place.
Thank you

Comment on the Thurs. Oct 2 sports article for girls high school golf. I am very disappointed that the article lists the 1st place , 3rd, & 4th place players by name excluding 2nd place. This was a local regional playoff and by the article no one from the area received second place. We have been patrons of the gazette for years and this is not the first time your paper has excluded our area in the news. Many people in the Elkhorn area have quit the gazette because it excludes the news from our area and continues to miss or chooses not to publish OUR interests. Apparently our money(from subscription rates) is not big enough to interest the staff at Janesville Gazette. Maybe I am sensitive to this particular article because my daughter was affected, but she has led the Elkhorn Elks to the sectionals two years in a row and in our area that is a pretty good accomplishment. She beat the girls from Craig and Parker this year in the regional. We have been reading about them in the paper all season and she never has received any print at all. She could be the athlete of the week in my opinion and you missed it. I am not sure if I will get a response from the gazette but I will await one.
Thank you
