— A man was charged with hit and run and driving without a valid license after police say his SUV hit a motorcycle and two parked cars Saturday.

A motorcycle driven by Daniel A. Straasburg, 33, of 3407 La Mancha Drive, Janesville, was stopped at a stop sign at State Street and Willard Avenue, Janesville, at 5:15 p.m. Saturday when a car driven by Juan L. Mazon-Avalos, 34, of 108 S. High St., Janesville, came from behind and hit him, according to the accident report.

The SUV continued driving, striking two parked vehicles in the 1900 block of Kellogg Avenue, the report said. The SUV lost its front passenger tire, and Mazon-Avalos was apprehended near Kellogg Avenue and Center Avenue.

Straasburg was transported to Mercy Hospital and was reported in good condition this morning.

Thank you all for the prayers and the support you have given me in the past month. This has and is going to be a long healing process. I had to have a titanium rod put in my leg with 4 screws. Juan was released on a recog. bond on the 13th of Oct. I was in the hospital for a week before I got to go home. I was in the process and suppose to take the JPD test on the 18th of Oct but that was taken from me with this guy hitting me. I was on the Corner of State and Willard waiting for my turn to go. I WAS STONE COLD SOBER because I DO NOT DRINK!! Ask anyone that knows me, I haven't for a few years now. Still waiting for the State of Wisconsin to help out with income and bills because I can't work yet. Also we are still waiting for the ROCK COUNTY COURTS to give us a date to start Juan's court appearances. But here is my question, it has been a month now! Why is Juan on the street? Who is next with his OWI hit and runs? Who else's life is he going to put on hold or end? If Juan isn't legal then why is he on the streets? If someone from Illinois is pulled over here and are issued a ticket they have to pay it before they are released to go. WHY IS JUAN NOT IN CUSTODY STILL? I think that Wisconsin should have harsher punishment laws for OWI! ALCOHOL AND DRUGS BOTH!!

I heard the person who hit (Straasburg) was in the process of being hired at the Janesville Police department, and his injury may hurt those chances considerably. I also heard the OWI driver was an illegal immigrant. If either of these are true, I am even more upset. I hope the victim heals up fully, and I'm sorry he had to be a victim in this neverending crap of intoxicated drivers.

According to the WCCA, the man that caused the accident has been charged with causing injury while under the influence. It does not specify what he was under the influence of.

I saw the apprehension of this guy Saturday afternoon. They pulled him out of the SUV and he pinballed his way to the back of the officers squad. Taking out two parked cars and a guy on a cycle sober? Ummm, no.

Anyway, JPD did a pretty good job here, It looked like a scene from COPS. I can't imagine what else this guy would have destroyed if they hadn't caught up with him.
