WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the four day early deer hunt

RSS

— Wisconsin hunters have their "blaze orange" out and their rifles "sighted in" for the early, four day, deer hunt beginning Thursday, October 16th.

The DNR wants to make sure hunters are aware of changes in the hunt this year. DNR Public Affairs Manager, Greg Matthews, says the changes include larger "herd reduction zones" rather than the familiar "cwd eradication zones."

Along with that comes the "earn-a-buck" program, once again. For the past two seasons, hunters were allowed to shoot both sexes, but doe to buck ratios the DNR asked for didn't materialize, and the state returned to the "antlerless only" harvest for the early hunt.
