— A former Janesville City Council member will run an 11th hour write-in campaign for U.S. Congressional District 1.

Greg Addie will run as an Independent and faces incumbent Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Marge Krupp, D-Wis.

Addie’s primary motivation for the campaign is the recent financial institution bailout, according to his news release. Addie also supports term limits for legislators, he told The Janesville Gazette this morning.

Addie, 49, of 2708 Omaha Drive, Janesville, was elected to city council in 2003 and served two terms.

In 2006, Addie unsuccessfully ran as a Republican against incumbent Judy Robson, D-Beloit, for Wisconsin Senate District 15.

Addie founded Integrity Water Solutions, 1950 North Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, in 2004. Previously he worked for family-owned Addie Water Systems, Janesville, for 13 years, he said.

Addie could not function well with the council here because he hitched his wagon to the corrosive mentality of B'moon. This was an extreme example of poor judgment on his part.

In general, councilmembers don't have a history of using the council as a stepping stone to higher office. That's more a practice of the mayoral/aldermanic form of government.

Unidentified - and if we had a mayor/alderperson council like what was proposed a couple of years ago, the alderpersons wouldn't do the same thing????

This relates exactly to my point of why I don't care for the city council system in Janesville. These people get elected there to help spice up their resumes or should they ever run for a political office. Meanwhile our city keeps raising taxes and utility cost to help cover expenses like skate parks, bike tunnels, and bike trail expansions. All so some shmo can get his name attached to some project and say "hey look what I did." This city needs to cut spending and start concentrating on jobs rather then recreational items and nonsense like another bike trail to nowhere. We've got enough parks and bike trails already.

Time to get rid of the Republicans once and for all. Your tax dollars hard at work: for the Republican party.
