— Janesville's GM plant has been given "closed plant" status, a change from the current "idle" status.

According to the latest shop committee report from UAW Local 95, the new status triggers changes in how employees are classified and in regards to relocation monies offered to employees. The employee status change deals with transferring to other plant locations, while the relocation fund will increase from $30,000 to $75,000.

The local union currently lists 83 members, who have transferred out of Janesville, who are now eligible for additional money.

The information, which is supplied by Shop Chair John Dohner Jr., emphasizes the new "closed plant" status has no bearing on discussions to bring a new product to the Janesville plant.
