— Woodbridge Group, a supplier to the General Motors plant in Janesville, has notified the state that it will lay off 70 workers.

Woodbridge is a global provider of urethane products to the automotive and commercial transportation, construction, packaging and consumer goods sectors. It supplies the Janesville plant with foam for seats.

The layoffs will not affect the entire company, which reportedly had 150 employees in June.

GM announced earlier this month that it will end production of full-size sport utility vehicles in Janesville on Dec. 23.

The production cessation is expected to eliminate more than 2,000 jobs at GM and area suppliers.

The state’s Department of Workforce Development and the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board have formed a rapid response team to work with workers dislocated by Woodbridge and the other companies.

curly,
With all due respect, it's not up to the Gazette to inform people on how to move forward with their lives! Since when did the media become so "Godly" that they know what's best for people? We are in a global economy now and the industrial age is virtually dead and gone. People need to stop taking to heart what the media feeds them everyday and start thinking on their own again and make it happen for themselves! The media in our society is all corporate driven! It's designed to take from the masses and benefit the few! Find something that's "information age" based! It's the future whether you or I or anyone else want to admit it. It's change or get left behind. I'm not saying this to be a "wiseguy" or to be negative! I'm saying this because I truly want to help! God bless everyone.

Your seeing the light.
All these companies work with and talk to
eachother. One can make a good guess that they
know more information then what we are fed by
the gazette. And are now starting to close or lay-off.
You can be sure the GM is not staying or retooling the Janesville Plant.
I would suggest the you google Auto News then
read the Detroit news or the Detroit free press
as to whats happening and up to date news about
mergers, aid ect.ect.Its not pretty but at least
you will be more informed.

It is getting sickening to see all these companies either close or have massive lay-offs. And all these rumors of what "MIGHT" come to this area. Gm will stay and retool, another car company coming in, a stamping company and how many others. How about some facts. What is a person suppose to do? Do they stay around here, collect unemployment and pray that the rumors have some truth to them that some businesses will comes to town? Do they pack up and move their families to find work? If only there could be some straight answers. Why cant the city give us some light on the subject, and tell us what is going on.
