Voters in the Town of Milton will soon decide whether the town still needs its own police department, or if sheriff's deputies can do the job.

Town Board Member Sue Gavigan says having a police department is a duplication of services. But Town Chair Bryan Meyer says ordinance enforcement is key, and helps him do his job.

Tuesday's referendum is non-binding and the town board could vote on the matter after the election. Gavigan says if voters decide they want to keep the police department, she will support their vote.
