— Misael Rivas scored two goals to lead Beloit Memorial past visiting Janesville Parker, 2-1, in a Big Eight opener Thursday night at Jacobson Field.

Parker (2-1) had numerous scoring chances but couldn’t overcome the wet conditions or missed opportunities.

“It was a tough night to play,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “The field was sloppy, it was raining, and it was cold.

“But we walked off the field with our heads held high. We had some good chances, but we couldn’t convert. Beloit’s a good team, and we stayed right with them.”

The Purple Knights took a 2-0 lead before Parker’s Ryan Porter ended the shutout bid with a goal in the 79th minute. David Jacobson picked up an assist on the goal but it wasn’t enough.

Peter Nicoloff had 19 saves for the Vikings.

Parker hosts a four-team invitational on Saturday. Rockford Jefferson, Poynette/Portage and Belleville are scheduled to compete.
