JANESVILLE Janesville Craig High School’s girls tennis team doubled its pleasure Thursday afternoon.
The Cougars swept all three doubles matches en route to a 5-2 Big Eight Conference win over crosstown rival Janesville Parker at Palmer Park.
Craig also got wins in singles play from Niki Westenberger and Nicole Timblin in improving to 3-2 in conference dual meets.
“It was a good win for us,” Craig coach Camilla Owen. “The Parker match is always one that the girls look forward to.
“We got great play from all three of our doubles teams. And Niki won very convincingly at No. 1 singles.”
Craig’s No. 1 doubles team of Hailey Smith and Taylor Storbakken improved to 5-0 in the Big Eight with a 6-1, 6-1 win. The Cougars also got wins from the No. 2 doubles team of Olivia Ehlers and Emily Reshower, along with the No. 3 team of Maggie Bolton and Kelly Collins.
Nicole Timblin was also victorious for the Cougars at No. 2 singles.
Lauren Brooks and Sarah Sodemann earned victories for the Vikings (2-4) at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
“We played pretty well as a team, I’ve got no complaints,” Parker coach Bill Peyer said. “Craig just did things a little bit better than us, but we can take a lot of positive things out of this match.”
Parker will compete in the Elkhorn Invitational on Saturday.
