Extra sets pay off for Verona against Cougars
VERONA Janesville Craig battled the host Wildcats through four three-set matches before dropping a Big Eight Conference dual, 5-2 Tuesday at Verona.
“This is the best we’ve played all year,’’ Craig coach Camilla Owen said.
Hailey Smith and Taylor Storbakken of the Cougars improved to 7-1 at No. 1 doubles with a hard-fought 6-7, (3), 6-3, 6-4 victory over Danielle Atkins and Becca Taylor.
Kelly Collins and Laudan Rezai defeated Megan Wilson and Bridget Baxter, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, for the Cougars’ second victory.
Craig (3-5) plays at Madison Memorial in a Big Eight dual finale on Thursday before heading in the Friday, Oct. 3, conference meet at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.
