3 expelled after break-in
JANESVILLE The Janesville School Board expelled three high school students Tuesday.
All three were accused of vandalizing school property, burglarizing a school and stealing school equipment and construction equipment.
Two were expelled through the semester that includes their 21st birthdays.
One student was expelled through the end of the 2009-10 school year but could earn early reinstatement if she or he goes through counseling and complies with staff recommendations for alternate schooling. If reinstated early, he or she must maintain good attendance, schoolwork and behavior.
The expulsions were the first three of the school year.
School officials do not reveal the identify of expelled students, but a 17-year-old boy was charged in Rock County Court this month with party to the crimes of burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal damage.
The charges stemmed from a break-in in early August at Craig High School.
Officials said gang graffiti had been scrawled on walls and fire extinguishers sprayed throughout the school. A projection TV was damaged, and electronic devices were stolen.

"Proved wrong?" What proof? What "Proof" do you see? There was a story upon which I commented. Later, essentiually the same story, with no "UPDATE" lead appeared elsewhere in the Gazetteextra, with none of the comments from the previous like story attached. The intelligent. decent response from Angus would have been to point out that this was not the same article, and that the previous posting was not the same as the current one. But he chose not to do this. Instead, like you, he chose to answer like a 10 year old smart-aleck, not a professional journalist. He also chose to respond to OTHER posters while naming me as his subject, blaming me for the comments of others. As far as it being a "rant," aren't you or Angus or our ever-ridiculous friend janesvillean capable of seeing that it was HUMOR??? Can you really read the repeated references to "Offend me" and not understand that it was in jest? Please--all three of you--take some reading comprehension courses, and see if you can do better next time.

woot! Go Scott. Put the smack down on him. Your right- his rant was way over the top, and even when he is proved wrong he keeps it up.
FWIW, though, I'd just take down the first comment, and the off topic thread. You don't want to get in the mud with these types. There is a funny quote about arguing on the internet, but someone would likely find it offensive, so I'll leave it to google...

I only see words here. I don't see any people. I do read more typical janesvillean nonsense, but we have all become quite accostomed to that.

markr, I was responding to your comment and that of mommyopes just below. And I was speaking in general terms about the challenges of deciding which comments to leave up and which to remove. There was no name-calling.

Never in my post did I accuse you of removing comments every time someone suggested you do so. Where in the world did you pull that one from. Your utter lack of comprehension tells us worlds about the state of your newspaper. If you could understand what you read, you might realize that you owe me the apology, not the other way around. You see things that aren't there, and then you pout about them. Boy, your comment certainly makes you look like one capable, thinking-man's journalist!

Hey scott, if you don't like readers comments, take your less-than-stellar editorial skills to another paper! I'm not the one who puts different versions of the same article all over the paper, and when you call me names, who is really the "crude", and "rude" dude? If your skin is so thin, maybe it's time for you to retire, and find something that will allow you regain your composure. It looks bad when you get hysterical and reactionary. But thanks for your demeaning, disgusting comment. It lets the community know exactly why this paper has fallen so far under your "leadership."

So, markr, are you going to apologize for your baseless rant? You commented on separate stories about the same topic and couldn't figure it out. As ncpanfan points out, your comment is still on the other story.
And no, we don't remove comments every time someone suggests removal. We use our best judgment and do the best we can. It's not easy balancing the crudeness and rudeness of some people with the sensitivities of others.
The bottom line, though, is that it's our site, and we get to make those decisions. If you don't like them, take your comments to another site.

I bet these kids are back in school next year. Because although it says they cannot come back till their 21. You can apply to come back and show proof on the classes you have attended and how your behavior is different. Some cases get back in and others don't. Kids now days don't care what their parents say. They have no respect for them. I know when I was younger I was afraid of my mom so I kept out of trouble. Of course I got into some trouble but I NEVER thought of breaking into the school or anywhere else for that matter. When my sister was about 6 or 7 we were shopping at Woodmans and they have that candy display where you can buy it by the pound or whatever you want. She took some candy out of there. My mom caught her before we left the store but she took both of us out to juvey to show us where the "bad" kids go. Scared me enough not to steal anything!

How are they supposed to pay restitution?
They'll probably be locked up by their 19th birthday making 40 cents a day punching new license plates.
I was also being sarcastic about my referendum comment. I know that's what insurance is for.
It just irritates me to see what teenagers today deem acceptable behavior. No conscience or accountability. I know not all kids behave like this but it is becoming more common. Just look at the paintball punks last week. Even worse is the adults of this community that continue to make excuses for this type of behavior or vilify those who don't support the youth.

Upon first reading this story this morning, I commented that when I was a kid, we tried getting out of the school, not into it. This comment was removed! Has this rag so completely lost its sense of humor that they find this offensive??? Watch out--they will be offended if you say "Good morning." Whoever is in charge of removing comments must LOVE to be offended--they find offense in the most NON-offensive of things. They get up in the morning looking for things to be offended by--"Offend me, offend me!! If you don't offend me, I will be offended by that!!"

The delinquents in question will probably have to pay restitution following their criminal cases, if it's equipment replacement costs you're concerned about.

I suppose that Janesville will have to have another referendum to pay for this also. Really, I'm supposed to spend my hard earned money for delinquents like this?
