— A January trial is possible for the man accused of robbing a teenage couple and raping the girl nearly a year ago in Janesville.

Kenneth D. Jarrett, 21, Janesville, is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of armed robbery stemming from the attack on the couple on the edge of Monterey Park on Sept. 28.

In court Thursday, Jarrett’s lawyer, Joshua Klaff, told Judge James Daley that his client was ready for trial, which probably would take two to three days. The earliest date for such a trial before Daley is in January, but no date was scheduled Thursday.

Jarrett robbed the couple at knifepoint and then assaulted the girl in two different ways, according to the criminal complaint.

I myself would like to see "NO" plea deal! This lowest of all low lifes, needs to go away for ever. He took a child and ruined her life, for ever. He's damn lucky a citizen didn't happen by,on that time and place, this is an unforgettable, and unforgivable act. This creep has no remorse, and i'll bet my life, this isn't the first time he's rapped some one!! This story has pi--ed me off when it happened, and every time it comes up in the news.

Any jury will look at the whole picture and will convict as to the evidence they have. A plea agreement would not give him the time he deserves as this crime was brutal and vicious and (HE NEEDS TO DO THE TIME) Innocent until proven guilty let the jury decide this one!!!! NO MORE GAMES as to lawyer changes THE TIME IS NOW TO END THIS. The longer it takes to get to trial the less the impact of the crime becomes. And I also feel sorry the young girl when it gets to trial to have to relive it! The criminals it seems get more rights anymore then the victims this NEEDS TO CHANGE........

If they could put him on trial without making her take the stand that would be great. But that is a fantasy world. I hope if she does have to take the stand she has dealt with the rape enough to know it was not her fault. Rape is a very very hard thing to deal with, and unfortuanetly this girl had to learn it soooo young. I hope her the best. I hope he gets sent away for a long long time.

Yes, lets plea bargain and save a few bucks. Why take the risk that a jury will find him not guilty. Better to let him off with a lighter sentence, after all, this way no one wins, not the potentially innocent defendant, and not the alleged victims and society in general. Deals like that may be efficient for business but they do nothing for the cause of justice.

I'm not sure what "move" you're referring to. This was a calendar call and there were no more procedural motions. (To date, Jarrett has switched lawyers, asked for a different judge, and extended time for discovery.) The next step is setting a date for trial.
.
There is probably the greatest pressure for a plea bargain the closer a trial comes, but a plea deal can come at any time. If anything, Jarrett is probably balking at a deal that the D.A. has already put on the table.

Probably a move to get plea bargain. No one wants to see rape victim, especially one so young, have to take the witness stand.
